The Watauga County School Board is considering removing a book its high school curriculum. 10th graders in an honors English class at Watauga High School are reading Isabel Allende's 1982 book The House of the Spirits. Some parents say the book is inappropriate for their children due to scenes of execution and rape.
The State Chapter of the ACLU has entered the controversy in support of teachers and parents who oppose removing the book from the curriculum. David Hurand spoke with ACLU-NC communications director Mike Meno about the controversy.
