It's a holiday weekend. Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May to honor those who died serving the nation in the United States military. It's also seen as the launching pad for the summer season. On Memorial Day, in the early afternoon, a ceremony honoring those who died while serving will take place in downtown Asheville at Roger McGuire Green.
Tony Kiss says the long weekend is filled with lots to do. It's the beginning of Beer Week, including the Just Brew It home brew event at the Wedge. There are activities planned at Connemara, the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site. The Asheville Tourist are in town for a three game series of minor league baseball and there's lots of theater to consider. On the big screen, the new X Men movie, Days of Future Past has arrived.
