Studio Glass Art Pioneer Harvey Littleton Dies

Artist Harvey Littleton

The man many consider the father of the American Studio Glass Movement has died.  Harvey Littleton, who lived in Spruce Pine, was 91.  Western Carolina University Ceramics Professor Joan Byrd  studied with and was a friend.  She spoke with David Hurand.

The Warren Haynes Christmas Jam benefiting Habitat for Humanity tops the entertainment calendar this weekend. The two night musical event is sold out but is also being offered on pay for view TV. There is also lots of Christmas theater and musical performances available and several new movies, including a benefit screening of a Yoga documentary.  Tony has it all.

Apodaca touts NC legislature’s busy year

Apodaca, a key player in advancing much of the recent major legislation passed by the General Assembly’s Republican majority, told the local business group that 2013 was a year of big achievements.

Buncombe Gov't To Reduce Carbon Foot Print

Buncombe County Commissioners have set a goal to reduce the county's carbon foot print.   Five commissioners voted in favor,  two opposed making the commitment.   Commissioner Brownie Newman led the effort.   David Hurand visited with Newman in his office at FLS Energy in the River Arts District.
