Asheville City: 2 hour delay, though buildings will be staffed and open at the regular time so parents can drop their kids off

Buncombe County: 3 hour delay, no buses on icy roads

Haywood County: 2 hour delay (no buses on icy roads)

Jackson County, Blue Ridge District: 2.5 hour delay

Jackson County, Smoky Mountain District: 2 hour delay

Macon County: 2 hour delay, no buses on icy roads

Signal Outages in Some Areas

As of Monday night WCQS has restored service to Cherokee County.  This afternoon service was restored in Transylvania Count. WCQS remains off the air in Macon, and Swain County - as well as  parts of Jackson County and North Georgia.  Our signals originating in Franklin, Bryson City, and Highlands are all affected.

Polar vortex brings cold temps, high winds to WNC

The cold weather sweeping across the U.S. Monday and Tuesday has been referred to as brutal, frigid, arctic, and wicked.

But the meteorological term for the cold front that’s stretching from Texas to Minnesota is officially called a “polar vortex.”

Studio Glass Art Pioneer Harvey Littleton Dies

The man many consider the father of the American Studio Glass Movement has died.  Harvey Littleton, who lived in Spruce Pine, was 91.  Western Carolina University Ceramics Professor Joan Byrd  studied with and was a friend.  She spoke with David Hurand.
