Flooding Disaster Aid Unlikely

It appears unlikely that state or federal disaster aid will be sought for residents and businesses affected by recent flooding.  That's the assessment of North Carolina Division of Emergency Management Western Branch Manager Mike Cook.  Cook oversees emergency management for counties west of Interstate 77.  He spoke  with David Hurand

In a move supporters claim will reduce the number of abortions in the state and opponents claim will further restrict access to women's health care clinics,  the State Senate has passed new restrictions on clinics that provide abortion services.   David Hurand spoke with the Medical Director for Planned Parenthood Health System, Dr. Donna Burkett about the bill which is now on its way to the State House.

Health Adventure To Close July 14th

It began in a single room at Mission Hospital more than forty years ago and this week it was announced that the Health Adventure in Asheville will close July 14th.   In 1992 the Health Adventure became a part of Pack Place Education,  Arts and Science Center.  A couple of years ago it relocated to the Biltmore Square Mall.

David Hurand spoke  with the Chair of the Health Adventure Board of Advisors, Dr. Mark Knollman

about the decision to close its' doors.

NEA Meeting Underway in Atlanta

The National Education Association annual meeting is underway in Atlanta.  the NEA  claims to be the largest professional organization in the U.S.   David Hurand spoke with the President of the North Carolina Association of Educators Rodney Ellis about the future of public education in our state.    Ellis leads  an organization with the stated mission of advocating for …equal access to a quality public education that  is adequately and equitably funded.”  

Ellis is attending the NEA meeting.
