PSNC INVESTIGATES GAS LINE RUPTURE AND FIRE

The investigation continues as officials with PSNC try and determine the cause of last Fridays' gas pipe line rupture and fire in Buncombe County.  Utility officials say service has been restored to nearly all of the seven hundred its customers who were without service following the rupture.  David Hurand spoke with PSNC Energy Vice President of Gas Operations George Ratchford about the company's initial findings.

Buncombe County: 3 hour delay, no buses on icy roads

Haywood County: 2 hour delay (no buses on icy roads)

Jackson County, Blue Ridge District: 2.5 hour delay

Jackson County, Smoky Mountain District: 2 hour delay

Macon County: 2 hour delay, no buses on icy roads

Signal Outages in Some Areas

As of Monday night WCQS has restored service to Cherokee County.  This afternoon service was restored in Transylvania Count. WCQS remains off the air in Macon, and Swain County - as well as  parts of Jackson County and North Georgia.  Our signals originating in Franklin, Bryson City, and Highlands are all affected.

Polar vortex brings cold temps, high winds to WNC

The cold weather sweeping across the U.S. Monday and Tuesday has been referred to as brutal, frigid, arctic, and wicked.

But the meteorological term for the cold front that’s stretching from Texas to Minnesota is officially called a “polar vortex.”
