WCQS / Western North Carolina Public Radio, Inc. has the following opening(s):

Classical Music Host - Part-Time
WCQS - Public Radio for Western North Carolina - is searching for a classical music host. This is a part-time, temporary position which includes live announcing and hosting for a statewide news program (The State of Things) and 2 hours of classical music, Monday – Friday – 12-3 pm.  

Other responsibilities:

  • Assist with music library
  • Assist with music listings on website
  • Assist with fundraising
  • Host occasional community events

Applicants must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree
  • Have prior on-air public radio experience
  • Have familiarity with standard classical repertoire
  • Have familiarity with the pronunciation of names and terms commonly associated with classical music (composers, compositions, performers) and with pronunciation rules associated with common European languages
  • Have strong verbal skills and be able to communicate effectively on air, with a friendly and inclusive on-air presence
  • Share the mission of public radio and WCQS, and a commitment to excellence
  • Have a current NC driver’s license, access to personal transportation

Awareness of the WNC arts /cultural scene is a plus. This is a Part time, temporary position:  20 hours/week, approximately 1 year appointment. Hours: 11:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday – Friday. There may be opportunities to work additional hours by substituting for other hosts. This is a part time, temporary position. There are no plans to make it full time or permanent.
